Via Crociferi
Built in the XVIII century, via Crociferi is the highest expression of Catania Baroque, shown off by sumptuous churches, convents and few houses. Along only 200 metres there are four churches : Saint Benedict's Church, linked to the convent of Benedictine Nuns by the homonym arch which overtops the street; Saint Francesco Borgia's Church; the Gesuiti's college; and Saint Giulian's Church, which is considered one of the most beautiful expression of the Catanese Baroque.
Massimo Bellini Theatre
Massimo Vincenzo Bellini Theatre was inaugurated in 1890.
This is the undisputed home of opera in Sicily. In the theatre hall we can find 1.200 seats and a perfect acoustic. Every year, in Catania, there are a lot of opera seasons and concert seasons.
Piazza Duomo
It is the main square of the city, in which three streets join: via Etnea, that is the main street of Catania, via Giuseppe Garibaldi and via Vittorio Emanuele II , which runs Piazza Duomo . On the eastern side of the square you can admire the Saint' Agata Cathedral, dedicated to the patron saint of the city. The festival of Saint' Agata is celebrated on the 5th of February. In the middle of Piazza Duomo we can find the solemn symbol of Catania , “u Liotru”, that is a lava stone statue representing an elephant, surrounded by an obelisk and situated in the middle of a marble fountain.
